General Information
Wenatchee Valley College's HepCat Swing Dance Club!
Interested in Swing Dancing? Well then, THIS IS THE CLUB FOR YOU! The Hepcats became a formal club in September 2000 after the downtown Cascadian Club shut down due to poor management, and bad luck. So the die-hards from the Cascadian decided to start up their own club within the local community college. The rest, as they say, is history.
Though we dabble in many forms of dance, our main focus is the "Swing" style of dancing that was so popular in the 1930's-40's. More specifically this means two main styles: Charleston, and most importantly Lindy Hop (mostly Savoy Style).
In the beginning we danced in various rooms at the college, but after about a year and a half we were being moved around so much because of changing room assignments and various construction projects that it became nearly impossible to continue on-campus. To make a long and painful story short, we finally landed on the Senior Activity Center on Maple Street as a weekly meeting place. What a GREAT idea!
But WAIT! This club is not only for college
students. In fact, the majority of our attendance is comprised of
people outside of the college. Ages range from around 12-65, with an
average group size of 40. It is anything but predictable with a fresh
crowd nearly every week. Holding it all together is a core group of
regulars: friends and HARD CORE Jitterbugs!
